I don't really know if I should be complaining. I started an internship at Apple in December and it'll go on until September. Since December I've maybe done 20 hours of work total. It's not a software internship, but rather something more business related. All remote, so I've been doing my own stuff but it's frustrating because I thought I'd be learning a lot and meeting new people. Instead, I'm getting paid to do basically nothing. I haven't talked to my manager in over 3 weeks, he's really busy with his own work. It's my first internship ever, so I'm happy that I get Apple on my resume. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Interns are tough because nobody has time to relay info and train. Proactively contact your supervisor, ask for an assignment, Google how to do it if you're unsure and figure it out on your own without eating up the supervisor's time.

Gives you an opportunity to get experience and demonstrate what you're capable of if you're trying to get hired in.

Otherwise the writing is on the wall that your supervisor forgot about you and this is a dead end.

You could also use this time to contact other managers in the company and say something along the lines of "Hey, I'm interning and am trying to learn more about the company. I'd love to connect to hear about what your team does."

Go prepared with questions and curiosity. You have a golden ticket to network - use it.

my manager (and his manager as well) literally don't reply to my emails. when I do get a project to work on, the people I should contact don't respond to my emails. I'm working for someone in leadership, so everyone around me is super super busy and couldn't care less about me.

I got my internship at a middle size cybersecurity company while I was in my senior year… it was in the middle of civid so it was fully remote, I didn’t do anything really… started as full time since May then converted to part time after Sept cuz of schools, was supposed to last until Sept next year but I was so guilty for getting paid while slacking off so I resigned in Apr next year…

  • Be more proactive. Ask for a project.
