What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Hi Blind, I am currently deciding between two internal roles at IBM. Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! Systems Engineer Role: ~129k Base, no stock - Proprietary language (similar to ANSI C) & Assembly Full Stack Engineer Role: - 109k Base, no stock - Mostly backend focused - React, Node.JS, Typescript, Cypress, Jest, Docker, Kubernetes, MongoDB, Jest, Jenkins, Openshift A few questions/concerns I have: Q: Is it worth it to take less salary (20k in this case) to work on “hotter technologies” with the Full Stack role instead of Systems? Q: Do you think working with a proprietary language for systems role would pigeonhole me and make it harder for future job hops? TC: 109k YOE: 1
Full stack is definitely much better option.
The full stack role will give you experience in many useful technologies that will help you land a much better job in 1-2 years. The systems engineer job won't have you working with anything useful and you'll be trapped
Q.Ans. Yes Will Pigeonhole you, take full stack. Challenging but will get you more in future.
Normally I’d say the 20k wins, but doing IBM systems will trap you in IBM. Take the full stack role and try to move on in 2-3 years.
1 year or lesser should be fine as well
