Got offers from both. Salary is higher in oracle labs (no relocation though), and I also get to pick between multiple interesting projects. Amazon may be better on the CV? But the project honestly doesn't sound that interesting. What do you think? #offer #tech
If you need more intel try reaching out to the recruiter to schedule a video chat with someone senior within the team.
I'm more Wondering how those two will look on the CV honestly :)
Prob won’t make a huge diff for CV considering it’s in the EU and not America. I too went with more interesting work over amazon but for a SDE role
Oracle labs is still a thing? Is it OAL? I worked them 5 years back and it was absolute shit, how’s it now?
They’re developing our autoML and some cool infra tools. On the dB side I heard there was a project to reduce latency in drams or some shit to name one of the few. One of their VPs said that Oracle labs is for enhancing oracles technology rather than making noise outside
You say interesting work, eh?? Well let me share my story. So I was hired from another company last year to work on 'cutting edge ML', exact terms as to what the Hiring Manager told me back then. When I initially joined I did get ML but then it was dropped off without much reason. Proper machines aren't given, only after so much of requests and validations, I was given one. Projects get assigned and realigned and reallocated randomly, with no specific reason. No ML since the beginning of the year, if I go and ask about ML now, then I get told that ML is not relevant work and layoffs can strike anytime. Plus, the WLB is totally screwed. Manager seems to hate me since I ask about ML and dumps all his frustrations on me during meetings. Use of unprofessional language is pretty much rampant! This is in DB org, IDC. All this because I managed to solve a problem which my manager hadn't been able to solve in months, and since I'm abreast with tools used in ML, so I was able to complete it. Their ego was hurt, primarily since the director of my org praised me in front of everyone. They were shocked to know of a particular tool that I found out and used, which would solve the problem so easily!!! After that, it was the time of rampant lies. Say my solution would take 2 hrs 56 mins to complete (verified from log file), if would be reported to the director as nearly 4 hours. If I'd ask a doubt during the morning, it will never get any reply, only doubts asked at night would be getting replies. At the time of joining, 1 of the seniors had mentioned in the team about the manager being technically very sound, but a horrible person to work with, well guess what, I found it out the hard way. I've got a couple of friends in Oracle Advanced Analytics and OCI, but their stories, although not as horrific as mine, are more or less the same only!!! I've got a couple of offers, currently in the negotiation stage now. But 1 thing's for sure - won't be returning ever to Oracle, even if they pay a million bucks. To OP, try and avoid the mental torture and harrassment. Goto Amazon, since they have a lot more of variety in their projects. Also you won't need to worry about PIPs since it's an internship! Also, in general, Amazon looks better on the resume.
It's only for an Internship, and I have actually lived in both locations for a few years during my childhood.
