My little brother is a junior in high school and wants to major in CS. He's taking tons of APs including comp sci, physics, and calculus. Are there any companies that take high school students for summer internships? Doesn't need to be in FANG or paid. Unpaid is fine. #internship #compsci #engineering
Send him to a mathcamp. Apart from developing problem solving skills interacting with other smart focussed students is better than interning at a company.
Microsoft has a program like that. I think it's called the explorer intern?
Thanks! I'm going to look into it but heard it's only for Seattle residents.
Shopify offers paid internships for high school students, but it would most likely be in Ottawa/Toronto.
That's interesting. What kind of jobs are they given?
They’re treated like real software engineers and given tasks working on actual production systems, obviously with much lower expectations than that of a full time engineer.
Lockheed Martin hires a ton of high schoolers!! I was one of them.
Oh snap! What location???
They hire high schoolers through their high school coding competition “CodeQuest”, and let high school interns work at any of the CodeQuest sites (it’s international). He has a better chance of getting the internship if he wins or places. The problems are mainly leetcode easy.
UCSC’s SIP is great - pairs hs students with post-docs and let’s them contribute to physics/Astro/bio/etc research. They have an amazing physics program and faculty
What's SIP? Also is UCSC a college, or what
Yeah a college, University of CA at Santa Cruz. http://ucsc-sip.org/about/
Expedia has an “apprentice” program for high school interns.

Indeed had paid highschool SWE interns when I was there, might be worth checking out
Thanks! Will check out. Know what location?
I believe its for their Austin, Seattle and SF locations. I would assume Austin hires the most. They provide housing for the HS interns too im pretty sure
