Joined Salesforce some years ago through internship. That time the level of difficulty was easy. Fast forward today, I’ve failed 4 interviews till date. Rejection list: Twitter: phone Apple: onsite Microsoft: onsite Amazon: onsite Only offer I got was from a medium size company that went ipo last year but was 5% over my current TC so did not take and was my first interview. I am really feeling rejected and think I prepared everyday for last 6 months for nothing. Now I have an onsite with Netflix next week but I’m thinking of postponing it indefinitely. I have been doing some self reflection and can say that I am never able to solve a problem I’ve never seen before and that’s what has happened in all interviews. After solving 250 leetcode questions (medium hard and easy) it is really disappointing. Also I feel OOD has been a pain point for me. Any pointers anyone? Should I take some time off and try again? Current TC: 210k
You are destined to be in FNG.
Yes, I studied algorithms initially for a couple of months before jumping to questions. Also I could only give like 2-3 hours everyday which equals to 1-2 medium questions per day at my pace.
Having done some recent interview prep, my suggestion is to practice more aggressively. Now that you have solved 250 problems, try solving some easy and medium problems without looking at solution. Try understanding the pattern and reasoning behind choosing an algorithm to solve a problem. Since you are getting in to interview mode for the first time or after a long time, this is pretty common. Seems like you have tried interviewing with some of the tough ones out there. Try interviewing with companies with relatively low bar. That will help build your confidence and help you deal with initial nervousness around the whole interview process.
How would you suggest approaching leetcode problems? I feel like I am not able to see patterns although I can usually decide on the data structure efficiently sometimes but not get to the solution. I feel like I don’t think through enough.
Maybe you’re that bad lol
Maybe I am, but I want to improve. That’s why I am asking.
Real dick indeed
Also is interview postponing necessarily a bad thing? I don’t want to ruin my chances at Netflix.
Are you bombing at the tech stuff or do you just suck at the behavioral questions / soft skill stuff? Maybe working with an interview coach could highlight some stuff you're missing. I've thought about doing this because I typically suck at interviewing. Also, keep in mind that you're being rejected from the TOP TIER of tech companies. Not everyone gets to play in the NFL or MLB.
Did you get in somewhere yet?
Nope. I kind of stopped looking due to family things. Will be starting again.
