Interview loop with Walmart ecommerce San Bruno

Can someone shed some light on the hiring process of walmart ECommerce (non tech roles) and if my requested TC was too much to ask for Got interviewed for a PM role in walmart ecommerce. It was quite short with three interviewers 30 mins each. The interview went well but i did not get an offer Not sure if it was my interview or my TC request that played the role I asked for a 130k base plus bonus, stocks and my perm (green card) process to initiate. I am a PM in Amazon with 6yrs of total experience and 2 yrs in a PM role at Amazon. Also what is a good way to reach out to walmart recruiters. I have applied to a number of positions but there hasnt been an update since 10 days Thank you in advance.

Interviewed got an offer and declined it some years ago. Not sure what their process is like now. I did not request a specific TC until AFTER an offer was presented. In general, NEVER introduce comp without an offer except in the context of what your currently make. Always say you want to focus on the fit first, and then base comp negotiations on that. Also, why were you so prescriptive requesting bonuses and stocks? Just focus on total comp, not the specific mix of comp components. Every company has their own philosophy, and Walmart is more amenable to negotiation on base than Amazon but less so with stocks (at Amazon, RSU is the only lever worth debating). You should really let them show their hand on comp first. I remember my interview loops being longer, and overall they felt really positively. But i approached it with humility, and never raised comp until we were ready to move forward with an offer. Their comp exceeded Amazon’s but I went to Amazon anyway. You likely turned them off by trying to dictate comp before you had even passed their interview, thinking your are hot shit for Walmart because of Amazon on your resume and can call the shots. Try more humility next time.

Great feedback. I remember mentioning to the recruiter that i am willing to negotiate and stuff. Bonuses and stocks came into discussion when she asked e about Amazons stocks that i will leave if i move. I guess i should have followed the strategy for negotiating comp later than earlier before interview. I was reached out by the hiring manager herself so that kind of raised my confidence lol

Yea. To be clear, your ask was reasonable, maybe even low. But make sure you understand the culture of the company. Walmart isnt as aggressive and hard-nosed as Amazon. Very consensus-driven. Being brash and relentless can work well at Amazon but turn people off at Walmart. It is why i turned them down.

I don’t think it was the comp. Usually if comp is the issue (and you’re asking for something that’s not way out of ballpark) there would be more of a negotiation. Like the recruiter will say, oh it might seem lower but if you perform well and get a promotion in December then you’ll be looking at X more! Or they’ll talk about the benefits, or the multipliers on the bonus, or something else to factor in.

Well she did mention that 130 is towards our upper limit but i also mentioned that i am willing to negotiate on base and total comp too I guess i wasnt just as good as the other candidate

The salary you asked for your experience seems very reasonable. Don’t low ball yourself. You can get much more in other companies.

Can you share your interview experience at Walmart with hiring manager. What were you asked more of behavioral or estimation or past project experience!?
