late nov- inerviewed with HM mid dec- 3 onsite interviews, AA was not scheduled next day- was again asked to come onsite for AA interview mid Jan- told by recruiter feedback was great but position is filled next day- recruiter connected me with another HM on the same team and asked if i can come for 1 additional interview with the same team. so I thought may be they want to check something specific so accepted the request. but the new HM responded on the recruiter’s email that they dont have any open position. the first HM still asked them to interview. third week of Jan- went onsite for the interview. the new HM did not even have my resume. They asked me who I had interviewed with and told me they do not know what other’s feedback was and why they were interviewing me. So definitely not interviewing because I messed up on something. 2 days later- first HM emails me that they were not inclined. no other feedback, just cold decline. Now- the recruiter has asked me for time to discuss other positions. What to make out of this? please help. is this normal? my theory - i cleared the interviews based on- I wouldnt be asked to interview with AA unless I had passed most of the onsite interviews. I passed AA otherwise I wouldnt be asked to interview with another HM. but i dont have the offer. so .... what is going on?
At Principal they are required to interview at least 1 diversity candidate before they’re allowed to make a hire, maybe that affected things in your case.
You should only work with a recruiter for one position. Once you are rejected for whatever reason, say you are now exploring other companies. Keep it simple.
Simple. Someone got hired because of a direct referral to the hiring manager, whether internal or external.
I think the they already had a candidate they know well and you’re unfortunate. Then HM thought you were a good candidate and referred you to other team but it was out of your original HM’s control
It’s a shame you played along , you should have outright told them you didn’t think it made sense - recruiter likely wanted to help, but team didn’t clear you
So blow off the recruiter?
Very political company and usually hiring within circles. Good luck!
Not true in Azure. I cant comment for other groups. HMs usually get a number of good candidates for Principal PMs positions. You unlucky.
I worked at Microsoft so just telling from what I saw. Of course people are hired from outside as well but listening to OP’s experience it sounds like someone else was hired but the whole process was run for the paper trail purpose as well.
