My experience looks like this:
5 months SDE Intern (Python, SQL) - big consulting company
18 months SDE-1 (C, SQL, Networking) - big consulting company
Masters in US - good public university
12 months Internship during my Masters as Data & Reporting Analyst (SQL, Tableau) - small company
5 months Data Analyst after graduation (SQL,R,Python) - small company

TC: 105 Base+ 26/20 Signing Bonus + 20 Stocks + Relocation bonus

After I got the offer, my recruiter told me they would try to get to me to L5 as soon as possible, this was promised multiple times even though I never objected to it as I was just happy I got the job (since I was furloughed on visa by my previous employer due to Covid-19)

If everything works out well, is it possible to get promoted to L5 under a year?

role is BIE

Promises of future promotions are worthless.

It really depends on how quickly you start delivering. The only people I've seen promoted under 2 years were people who have interned at Amazon (and even that's usually 1.5 years)

Getting promoted in ~1 year is possible but it is not that easy. You should prepare yourself for 2 years just in case.

I entered to Amazon as a top-of-the-band SDE-1 (with ~4 years of experience). I got my promotion approved after ~10 months but it became official only in the 13th month. Another colleague in my team, with similar experience, had the same journey. In order to get promoted that fast 1) you should start delivering (on the important stuff) right away 2) you should earn your colleagues' and manager's trust 3) document all the good work on the go
