I interviewed three times at Google in the past, didn't make it. Should I try again ? Is my age reducing my chances of passing the interview (over 45)? TC: 350k YOE: 20
GTL lifestyle - gym, tan, leetcode
LOL, sounds so true 😂
Why so desperate to join Google? Instead, if you spent leetcode time on building and learning something useful, you will be more valuable than 350k.
Good point. That's exactly my thought as well. I am currently learning AI / investigating the possibility of building an AI / deep learning product.
That's great! Just learn and move along. Google has tons of great talent already so you would likely feel like a cog in a wheel even if you work there. If you worked at a startup or mid sized company, your work will be valued more and you would likely feel more happy.
You already make 350. How much do you expect to make at G? If anything they will lowball you
Meh, I’d move on.
My current approach: Invest 50% of my free time building something, learning new skills (AI related). 30% gym. 20% leetcode.
Move on to where? Many places suck and screw your wlb.
Keep interviewing but not for a job at google. Interview so you know how your skills rank. If you get an offer you are good for almost any place
This is from the google recruiter I worked in the past " We do have to wait a full calendar year if you wanted to interview again and in regards to interviewing a 3rd time, that is up to the recruiters discretion as we do typically allow 3 onsite interviews. "
I heard the stat that the average googler gets in on 5th try. Did you do 3 onsites?
Yes, I did 3 onsites :-) The first two were for SDE. On the first one didn't prepare at all, I was very ignorant wrt Google bar, so I failed miserably. On the second one I prepared somewhat, "passed" the interview, got submitted to the HC, but could not clear HC.
5th try, no absolutely not.
Thanks all for your support and the variety of point of views.
Congrats. Like someone mentioned before, I heard that 3 is the maximum number of on-sites that are allowed, but your experience clearly shows that it's not accurate
There is no limit. However if you have a string of no hires, your ability to get through HC declines each time. Exception is if you are applying to radically different jobs. Then it's not a problem. Sometimes it's clear you are a fit for job Z but not job x or y. Totally reasonable
Dye your hair, shave, hit the gym and also... leetcode your ass off.
Gym and shave is taken care of. Dye-ing hair is a new idea, didn't think of it, will consider it. Leetcode is next.
Also a few days of intermittent fasting helps a ton, literally just fast for two days water + electrolytes, can shave off a couple years.
