Interviewed with Microsoft, strange reply from recruiter. Any idea what it implies?

I had 4 interviews done for a senior PM position with Microsoft in Europe earlier this week.
Emailed recruiter to follow up 2 days after. The recruiter said the overall feedback is positive but the team is still evaluating multiple candidates as part of the standard Microsoft practices. There are still a handful of interviews that are pending to happen and they would like to give everyone a fair chance for the role as they were already involved in the process. A final feedback (which still need to be discussed based on some other discussions) will be given next week.

I am a little confused, if the feedback was positive do they still have to wait to interview others? Also what are 'based on other discussions' ๐Ÿ˜น?
Any people had similar experience?

    I think we don't have thousands of PM in Europe, so it probably makes sense to pick when you have multiple applications for couple positions. What's strange about it ?

      Maybe not๐Ÿ˜ธ Just got a feeling earlier that they would make a decision really fast. Now it will take longer than expected. Also it's little ambiguous when recruiter says positive feedback but need to finish process with others. Not sure if HR or the team decided that.

    Thought these days... companies just hire on a rolling basis, fill up roles then close application. Should be first come, first serve.

  • Itโ€™s a typical procedure for companies that has origins and HQ in Europe. Surprised to hear that itโ€™s happening at Microsoft too. Good luck!

  • I think it's a European thing. My wife went through similar experiences (not Microsoft) - a fixed date till when they collect applications, a fixed time period for conducting interviews of everyone who applied and who meets the position's requirements on paper and then informing everyone of the results.

      Thanks for reply. I am the first or second interviewee according to recruiter. She said usually the feedback is made within 48 hours. And I did receive 'positive' feedback. But she said since there are already other candidates in the loop, they need to finalize those before giving a final feedback. Does it mean I am I top 1 in the list? Anyways finger crossed. It is just irritating to wait.

    • It doesn't mean anything. They are probably just being polite, and keeping you warm.

      Yes, it's irritating but not much one can do but wait it out. Keep interviewing, if you have other options lined up.
