I accepted an offer last week, with a scheduled start date of October 15. Today, a recruiter reached out for a role that I was VERY interested in. Comp is also fantastic and in the same city as the offer I accepted. I was super honest with her about my situation and she was still interested in setting up a call with the hiring manager. Hypothetically, if I get the offer, and really like the role and team, is there a downside to me reneging my current offer? Legally, an employment contract is not binding, and no money has exchanged hands yet.
The offer you’ve accepted was from FB? Take it, that’s a nice experience and perks are superb.
No. The offer I accepted is a startup. The role that I would interview for is a giant in media/entertainment. That's all I'm going to say.
There is no harm in trying, you can decide about joining or not later. But if you get it, join Netflix.
Follow the money. You can never turn down more money and better perks.
Bad idea. Follow what makes you feel more comfortable.
I agree with dollyroger on the downside but if never working for the burnt company is no big deal then it’s minimal. Something an outplacement counselor said to me really stuck with me. NEVER stop interviewing for a potential opportunity that is a better fit for your career. He even talked about your situation. You should keep interviewing even if you start because you may actually hate the new job. Once you have a job you like, all that means is that you can be more selective on opportunities. Remember, it’s your career and you should make choices good for you. Because the company sure won’t consider your career as a priority when they reorg.
That's a very helpful outplacement counselor.
Just saw MG’s post. Another thing the counselor said is to NEVER follow the money as that is a sure path to unhappiness. The other things should carry much more weight.
Unless if the money is big enuff?
That counselor probably had a low TC. $400k can cover up a lot of flaws in a role.
