I recently got contacted by a Meta recruiter for a remote AR/VR position in Canada. Wasn't really thinking about leaving Unity but after getting a 2% increase on base and a ~50K refresher with no plan for promotion in sight, I decided to give it a go.
Had the initial conversation with the recruiter a few days ago and I went from "meh" to "can't wait for the technical interview".
The recruiter mentioned that the interview process would be one of the hardest ever, only because Meta hires only the top talent.
I've been working on the same project at Unity for almost 2 years now at an IC6 and none of my managers seem to know what I should do to get promoted to an IC7.
WLB at Unity has been good so far, WFH from 9-5, there are the odd times where I start earlier or end later for a meeting or so.
- How does progression at Meta work?
- The position sounds like a lead role between level 5 or 6, should I expect to get put in level 5 (I heard they always downlevel you)?
- What kind of TC should I expect for a remote Canada?
- I can't seem to find enough resources talking about the benefits package in Canada either, anyone has any insight?
- How does vacation days work?
- Does anyone know what the WLB is like for the AR/VR gaming team at Meta is? (Sounds like the Oculus team from the recruiter)
TC: 200K (CAD)
YOE: 14

I would try your best to ace the interview, but anything less you should expect a downlevel.
WLB is very team dependent and how well you can prioritize and push back.
TC will be less in Canada than in US but should still easily beat your Unity TC.
21 days paid vacation. 11 holidays and 5 Meta days (16 effective company holidays).
