Hi folks,
Need some insight. Got an offer from Intuit QB. Location: Mountain View.

How is the PTO culture at intuit?

1. Is it difficult to take vacations?

2. If I have appointments during work day, do I need to take a day off or is the work hours flexible to adjust for that?

3. If you exhaust your PTO days, can you exceed if your work is done without pay cut? in my current job, i have an understanding with my manager that if my work is done, he doesn’t care what I do.

4. I know you can carry forward sick days. Does the same apply for vacation hours?

5. I have heard that intuit gives 4th of july, halloween and Christmas entire week off. Is that true?

Any insight would be appreciated. I want to know what I am getting into before taking a decision.

It is never difficult to take vacation at Intuit except for the 2-3 weeks per year that are critical and you are on call. We get weeks of sick and even extra sick time above your vacation. We also get the weeks off of Christmas and July 4th and holidays like Juneteenth. No one flinches when you take time, but of course every team has nuances.
In general you may consider joining Qb and moving to TurboTax or another brand soon mostly from leadership and learning

@DP9I45: Thanks for the advice. I actually going to be part of QuickBook Commerce team. Is the leadership issue there as well?

Probably not. QuickBooks does not have good vision or organization, leading to problems with overlapping work and old, random tech stacks. Commerce is closer to ideal I believe

1/2/3 It probably depends on the team, but my manager and I have a similar understanding to the one you seem to have currently. He doesn’t care how much time off I take as long as the work gets done. It’s very easy for me to take vacations. I haven’t needed to take a day off just because I was out for an hour or two for an appointment.

    4. Vacation hours carry over, but there is a cap at some point.

    5. This year Intuit has given the company the week after the 4th of July off as additional recharge days and has implemented the week between Christmas and New Years off as additional time off indefinitely. I haven’t heard anything about Halloween though.

You need not worry about vacations. Take as many as you want and no one will bite their eyes.

Agree with DP9 suggestion. Consider/plan to move to turbo soon as the leadership is fked up. Blind is filled with hate and blood for QBO.
