Intuit tricks customers??

Apr 29, 2019 84 Comments

What do you guys in Fintech or ppl with a paid/free version of a product think about turbo tax purposefully making it difficult for users to find the free version of their product? A part of me thinks this is just standard business practices, but another part of me feels like intuit screwed over low income individuals on purpose for profit. Thoughts?

They also lobbied against simplifying tax filing systems and free, government filing options.

They exist to solve a problem that they have exacerbated 😂

Most* people only need to enter their W2s, which are already reported to IRS anyway, and only take standard deductions. So it should really be just as simple as clicking a button to file. What Intuit did was to lobby against this. Which makes filling a PITA.

The government knows how much to charge you but wants you to do it again and penalize you for mistakes already.

Yeah this makes me mad. Knowing this alone crosses them off my list of wanting to work for them

I seem to remember republicans tried to simplify the tax system, post card tax return was the promise. But then everyone (right & left) complained because we want a complicated system. We want to charge people who make more higher rates, we want all sorts of carve-outs & exemptions that we like.

Lol on giving fb credit just for trying. First of all it's nonsense, and secondly fb failed to address issues over and over again.

Uhh, did you listen to F8? Obviously, FB is a company built on privacy for the common person.

    • No one needs liberal snowflakes at FB attempting to define morality. FB is more facist than any dictator that's walked this earth. And they've convinced their young employees that it is righteous. Or perhaps it's the young employees driving policy. Either way, no one needs FB defining speech..

Lol this post quickly turned into a mess. Chill guys! All of our hands are dirty. Corporate America is built on extracting profits from customer at any cost, no matter how society gets affected by it. You want a lifestyle, you want to get paid? Unfortunately that’s how businesses which employee you work. You want to feel good? Help somebody in need. No company is saint that’s why all of them have those slides which brainwash new joiners.

Finally someone who actually gets it! Why aren't there more people like you? How does the majority of people not understand this!

Lol @ the person thinking this is old and is changing. Yeah, suddenly in *your* era business becomes all about ethics and not Q-on-Q profits. The only thing that is changing is improving the perception for the gullibles.

I'm not a guy, and I didn't say it wouldn't be for profit. I think things are changing not because companies have better people but because consumers are demanding more transparency and ethics from companies with reputation being more at stake, and online everything is about reputation.

Sorry about referring to you as a guy. I edited my comment.

As for the rest, I still strongly disagree. Companies will keep finding ways to fees customers superficial values while maintaining their age-old ethos of profit above all. Things are not changing. Things are as awful, but they just now have a new layer of paint.

I tend to agree that the past is not worse than now. There were moral orgs in the past. They are however usually painted as bad by the current culture to create a “false” sense of progression.

I'm not sure if that's true. With the spread of information thanks to the internet, studies have been show transparency and sustainability are actually profitable traits a business can have.

There *are* viable alternative. FreeTaxUSA, H&R Block and Taxcut are nearly identical in what features they support and should all be adequate for a majority of tax situations.

I don't like intuit lately. Mint also with the guise of helping you make financially smart decisions pushes poor credit offers down your throat. I feel like intuit is praying on the ignorant/uneducated who turn to them for advice and find profiteering.
