I recently completed my Data Science internship at Microsoft and was offered a full time Data Scientist position at Redmond, WA. I was offered a base salary of 110K/year and ESO of 120k, vesting for 3.5 years. I personally feel that I have been low-balled as I have a master's degree and 2 years of Professional experience. Do you folks think that this is a fair offer and what it's usually offered for a Data Scientist position at Amazon or Apple. Can you folks share the typical package offered by Amazon , or any other tech companies.
If you like the team, take it. Don't reject the offer over a 20k year TC difference in a job you MAY get... With the upcoming recession, there may or may not be significantly better offers when you graduate. (Next June?) And Microsoft gives you failsafes like Vancouver if no H1B etc.
The only way to know for sure is to get offers from other companies and see what they are willing to offer you. Also, don’t be afraid to try negotiate up for more money.
Seriously this guy is a total dweeb... if you don’t think it’s fair get other offers
The offer isn't $110k/yr. It's salary + vesting sign on + eoy cash bonus + eoy stock bonus. 110+30+11+9. You're looking at closer to $160k/yr offer. A data scientist should have been able to figure that out.
The last statement is hilarious 😂
Yes its low, you should reject it so they counter offer.
That's a bad advice
Many data scientists have PhD in related fields. It's not the same to compare your salary with others
That's an amazing offer for Seattle/your profile..lowballed? 😏 Kids these days! Want to start at 400 or 500k?
Take it. It’s a good offer for a non PhD.
It’s more - something like 100k makes sense
Is your 2yr experience data/analytics/software relevant? If not, you are 0 YOE and this offer is fair.
Taxes in Seattle are low and that offer is more than 110k. What was your salary for your other two years of professional work experience?
Sale tax are high (10.1%) but there is no income tax
