I just moved to the U.S. recently and got a job based in Seattle with Cognizant. They offer me $132k for base but no other bonus or stock options. I still have interviews with TikTok, Tinder, Doordash(final round) and other big tech companies. I’m wondering if I should just take this offer. I’ve been unemployed since I moved to the U.S. YOE: 4+ years iOS YOE: 2+ years TC: same as the title
Its less for seattle. But cognizant can only pay so much, take the offer and continue looking elsewhere
I probably need to look into the offer if there’d be legal issues if I took the offer and backed out
What legal issues? You can renege however you want in the US. It's called at will employment
It's more than my development job in Dallas. Do what you feel is best for your future.
Thank you! The living cost here in Seattle is super high. I’m running out of my savings pretty fast :(
It is a lowball offer for Seattle and HMs do take advantage of folks in a tight spot (i.e., unemployed since coming to US). I would accept the job and keep interviewing. It is okay to back out if you find a better opportunity - hate to say it but you have to look out for yourself as most (if not all) companies won’t really care about the individual employees
Ditch cognizant and try to get a role directly with any good tech company and you will double your TC.
Thank you! I’m leaning towards continue interviewing
Personally, I will never work for one of those consulting companies ever again. I worked for TCS for a year and it was miserable. They definitely do not pay you enough to deal with their BS. You will be much happier at the other places you are interviewing with.
Thank you for your insights!
That’s what new grads at Expedia or Nordstrom get paid. You should definitely be getting paid more. Either continue interviewing or take the offer and continue interview; the constant in both the options is continue interviewing.
Wow they offer higher new grads salary than Microsoft and Amazon? I heard for new grads they usually get 110k-120k for entry level at M and A
More. That’s just salary and they also get stocks.
Interview at the other places too. Sounds low and it’s weird there’s nothing more than cash, for that amount.
For cognizant it’s very high, for SWE in Seattle it’s low - average.
I would ask for sometime get to them. Then finish up your other interview loops and hopefully get something better

Can I slack off as E9 at Meta?
For Seattle it's on the low end, especially for 4 years of experience. So i would say no, it's not a good salary all things considered.
Thank you so much!
