Your wife/husband can work as well ?

Workday Tc!🥜 OP Aug 8, 2022

Yeah for $80k

Intel besttrader Aug 8, 2022

Is that a combined household income or just yours?

Workday Tc!🥜 OP Aug 8, 2022

No just mine. Wife is $80k salary

Databricks qPIy66 Aug 8, 2022

Nope not a livable income need to trade wife for higher TC if u want to survive

Probably not buying anything in a non-shit area. Budget is gonna be tight, but you will survive

Any rentable areas you recommend until I hit senior? It seems like a decent place is the same price as a $1m mortgage

Uber bluberr Aug 9, 2022

Do you have kids? If no kids, you can do a nice 1B for 3.5k in Palo Alto. If you have kids, 5-6k is enough for an older home in Sunnyvale. You definitely aren’t buying anything built on this side of the century in a non-shit area for 1m. You’re gonna get stabbed in Oakland

Don’t buy a home. You certainly can live decent with your TC.

Over $300k combined TC and no children? That’s more than enough to live well

Maybe at a trailer park

Rally Health rh848 Aug 8, 2022

300K will definitely get you a house and decent life in some parts of bay area. Ignore the naysayers

Google dogfoodie Aug 8, 2022

Depends on how far away you are considering still to be the Bay Area.

You will do great and have plenty of money if you are renting. If you think owning a home is necessary, ehhhhh

LinkedIn ALBK30 Aug 8, 2022

You can live well if renting. Harder if you want to buy a house unless you have significant amounts saved for the down payment.

Workday Tc!🥜 OP Aug 8, 2022

I’m a veteran. No down payment necessary with va loan but it maxes out at $965k + we will have $100k cash from our current home sale. Even with let’s say a $950k budget we can only afford Hayward or Oakland right now.

Rally Health rh848 Aug 8, 2022

Some part of Fremont, with some TLC doable at that budget
