Is $360k at L5 possible with Dive and Save?

Current tc= $250k

Google is offering $300k, I told this to my manager.

He is attempting to save, I told him it would need to be at least $360 for me to consider it; he said he will try to get it.

Isn’t $360 out of band? Probably taking Google anyways

  • As a hiring manager, these things never end up good. Even if they match what you are asking for, it will put you in the top of the list for replacement as 1- they may be able to get some one at lower cost, 2- more importantly you just told them you are not loyal to the company (although everyone knows that, but this is a proof). If you've already resigned/tell your manager, then just take the new job.

    Dive and save is a dumb principle from the beginning. If they can pay more than to it from the beginning, not as a fix after you got an offer somewhere else. The trust is already broken. Your manager knows you are willing to leave and you known you are not being paid what you deserve.

      Top performers get paid 80th-100 percentile in band, and amazon pays at 50th-80th percentile of market. So they view already that they’re paying top ppl well. Doesn’t mean that some may not get up leveled elsewhere or get more from a company who pays top of market.

    Ask for 360 AND ask for a fast track to 6. If they give you that, stay. If not, go ahead and leave

      It does change your TC, unless it’s a one time bonus.

      But a promise doesn’t mean anything. There’s no fast track, the money is all there is

      I said TCT not TC. The missing T stands for target. Basically amazon pegs you at a target based on your perf and level. Dive and save is like a bonus on top of that but it runs out. You may get to 360 for a year but if you don’t then get promoted you’ll fall back behind.

    You have 300k offer and you are asking for 360k which is up from your current 250k. I would say this will spoil the rapport you have with your manager. He might pay back.
