I have been seeing lot of people on blind say that Amazon is the worst in terms of WLB. Is this really true? I will be interviewing for the Alexa skills team and I am getting scared what I am getting myself into. P.S When I say bad do people work more than 10-6 daily (like work at night and all). If so how frequently?
Bad is a very relative term...
Clarified my question
Depends on team. My hours are 9:30 - 5:30. I knew someone's were 11 - 5, and after a year he transferred as he felt bored at the previous team. I also know someone usually works ~10 hours a day.
10-6 is doable in many teams, but they are usually the ones with slow growth and learning.
It’s honestly very team dependent. My team on average works 10:30-6. I have lots of friends in Amazon who are in similar position. However, I also know people who work 10-7 because pressure from their team.
Highly dependent on the team. I work 35-40 hours a week, WFH whenever I want, and have effectively unlimited vacation (my manager doesn't bother tracking it). Everyone on my team does the same, so it's not like I'm about to get fired or anything. Just got a great review too.
Good to hear! I am a normal guy not a genius or anything. I work hard but I want to maintain a good balance between work and my personal life. I am NOT a workaholic and don't want to be one. So was just wondering if all the hard work that I am putting in for the interview is really worth it.
I'm in a situation exactly like MCdU46. But it does vary team to team. I would feel out the team and the manager during the interview. But if preparing for an interview too much hard work...
Apple to amazon not worth it imo, even if you get wlb
Would love those hours but most shit from management comes down in the afternoon 1-4pm so if u can get it done by 6 more power to you. Come in before 9 for visibility but nothing important happening. It’s a waste of time when money is more and politics are less almost anywhere else.
no, facebook is the worst.
SDE 9-5
