I recently got an offer for a senior PM at Bing in Seattle. I am not sure if it is a good place to learn and grow. Some of the folks on my interview panel seemed very mediocre compared to what I have seen in Bay Area. Comp is at par with what I am making but I am not sure if it’s a good career move? I have a lot of autonomy at Yelp and I can make a big impact also. But I have been curious about working at a big company. Thoughts or suggestions?
OP, just curious, how many years of total experience do you have?
8 years. Any thoughts or feedback on working at Bing?
Heard there are layoffs at Bing recently - maybe just a gossip. Are you getting a more senior role at Bing ?
Layoffs only in sales and marketing
PM at Bing is better than PM at most other parts of Microsoft. PM me if you want to talk specifics
I would assume azure is the best play to be in MSFT now. How much opportunity is there on Bing? It’s a fairly mature product
Azure is definitely a solid place to be too. Bing is mature but growth and personalization are the two areas where not a ton has been done and lots of opportunity there
Is there still investment in Bing? FB search just hired a wave of ex Bing folks
Short story: Stay at yelp. Long story: depends on what “good” means to you. Is good the quality of your peers? Quality of the product? Product market fit? Challenge? Growth? There are a lot of different aspects to good, however as a PM why would you want to work on a product that nobody uses?
Thanks! Curious are you also a PM? I am little interested in working at a bigger scale than yelp and learning best industry practices. Bing has a 30% search market share but I think most of it is via enterprise searches and very small volume from organic searches.
In the US there is a lot of organic too. It's a great team. You should join.
