Is Citadel Securities a good place to work?

Nov 1, 2019 27 Comments

Asked to come onsite to NYC after passing the phone screen.

Is it a good place that pays well? Recruiter mentioned they pay more than Google and FB. How true is this?

I have to take at least 2 days off to fly to NYC for their interview. Is this worth doing?

Terrible place to work unless you like cold, bureaucratic, top-down finance, stereotypical bros, and worse.

How easy is it to switch teams within the company?

From what I’ve seen generally pretty easy if you’re a strong performer

High TC (considerably higher than F or G) but potentially worse WLB (average 50-55/week) and more ambitious deadlines. Overall very high talent pool - would definitely recommend for ambitious 20-something year old but maybe not for someone with family

Remote access is limited, so it can be hard to be effective outside the office.

Disagree with all of this (except the comp, that is sweet) -- I have a much better WLB, and work more remotely than at my previous tech jobs in the Bay.
You just need to get the shit you commit to done, and be able to prove you're making them boatloads of 💰. If you can do that in a 40 hour week, then you're set. If it takes you 60, that's a you problem. Plenty of happy people with families here.

This is all assuming a good team/reasonable manager of course.

Depends on what you like. No bro culture and a ton of smart people. But deadlines usually pretty ambitious.

Citadel Securities pay is typically one level above F/G. For example, a level 4 at F/G (TC 200-300k) might get a level 5 pay (TC 300-450k) at Citadel Securities.

Never interviewed there but it's a company I would consider working a few months or max a year in my career for that high TC. I would be ready to accept that year would be the most hectic year in my career.
