Got an internship at Citi working full stack and was wondering if it's a good opportunity to take or should I keep interviewing ? I don't hear back much because I'm non CS but this is my first actual software engineering internship, my Deloitte experience was ML. #tech
Take it and renege if you find something better
Pretty bad culture across the organization.
Really?
Yeah, most teams are filled with contractors who overwork without any incentive.
Also wanted to specify I am currently final interview at Doordash so I would take that
Were you unable to push the deadline for the Citi? If you are still in school, your school should have something like this: https://beam.stanford.edu/employers/find-candidates/recruiting-guidelines . If your school does, and the Citi did not respect that, feel free to renege. Nonetheless, if you get your Doordash internship, renege. At the internship level, it only really affects your schoolmates at worst if Citi has indeed respected your school's recruiting guidelines.
Citi wasn't through my school I had applied on my own, and the internship is a summer only Position. I don't believe it can be done in any other season similar to the other banks.
Legacy shit tech stack.
The stack I'm working with is mainly big data stuff and Like Java , Scala, Angular
That’s the typical finance/banking stack, you won’t find anything cutting edge even in the big data space. But you will be exposed to huge volume of data and continuous dumpster fire which would make you tough and subsequent jobs feels like cake walk.
I just am worried I won't get a new grad position at a decent place if I take this
Yeah that's not great, keep looking
I’m currently a new grad at Citi doing SWE. It’s not as bad as they say - I actually really enjoy it so far. Really depends on the team and what division you’re in, but don’t feel bad. Make the most of it, and hey, if you don’t end up liking it, it’s just an internship
Find something else if you can. You’ll be blocked waiting for requests to get fulfilled until your internship is over.
1. It's just an internship and a good stepping stone into big tech. You can always reneg if you get a better offer. 2. They give every single intern a return offer. starting NG TC goes up every year by 5-10k and it's around 90k rn for Mississauga. 3. your experience will be team dependent. If you want to learn a lot of new tech with good scope, go for equities. I've heard TTS and private bank seem to do interesting stuff as well.
I'm on the treasury and technologies solution team assuming that's what you meant for TTS, I did ask for equities but they didn't interview me I'm just worried it's not going to help as much for big tech but maybe I'm wrong
The office that I'll be working out of doesn't seem to have the best reviews either
It’s fine. Do a great job and see where it takes you
