Is Coding test for L6 /L7 Engineering Managers?
trying to prep for next and best mive for my career in FAANG L6/L7 software development manager roles. I am prepping system design interviews with lot if resouces on youtube and behavioral situational questions as STAR method. Would there be coding interview? do i need to prep leet code like things? or basics conceptual paper understanding of like BFS,DFS, sort algo enough? like able to draw on whiteboard and explain? key question is do i need to write working code in an interview? like creating nodes and playing with references etc? i dont do coding in current job. and I dont want to be individial contributor. heard mixed info - facebook says they may have psudo code? amazon may be not? current YOE 19, director, team size 30 current TC 210K appreciate valuable comments from folks who interviewed for manager level. #facebook #amazon #google #apple #sdmamazon #seniormanager #engineeringmanager
FAANG given your current experience will not consider you for L6/7. L5 much more likely. Non FAANG VPs mayyybe come in at L6. People here are simply that much more productive that the extra level of management simply isn’t necessary.
It depends don’t generalize .. question is more about if they ask coding for L6/L7 .. I won’t apply for L5 anyway.
For M1 at Facebook I got 1 coding session, it was two questions that I would consider LC medium to solve in 45 min. At Google for L6 manager I got 1 coding session with one coding question, that one was in my opinion LC medium-hard. You can’t use pseudo code in them, is fine if your syntax isn’t perfect but they expect you to write real code.
At FB, you’ll get 1 coding question that’s LC easy to maybe soft medium. At Google, it’ll be in the medium range.
Google will give you a coding question for L6. Not for L7, generally (perhaps there are exceptions).
