Is expedia a decent tech company to work for in seattle area ? All i know is it is not tier 1, how is it compared to some other companies like redfin, zillow, ebay
How does comp compare to msft , especially for companies like Expedia which doesn't give stocks or do they ?
They do give options for director and above. They give Rsu to lower levels. Comp is meh but good life and nice people. Go for work life balance and not for 💰.
For work life balance microsoft is also good enough
Wrong on the stocks, at least at annual review time. Whoever gets stocks can choose options or RSUs.
Very good company, was very happy there. Pay is maybe a touch low compared to Amazon but benefits are better and work-life is WAY better. They are also pretty into new technology, so you're doing interesting things (unless stuck on a team supporting a legacy app). And yes, they give yearly bonuses AND stock (you can choose between Options or RSUs). Source: bought my house by selling EXPE stock.
Work life balance is good if you’re in the right teams, pay is bad in all of them. Management is so far removed from tech that it is not even funny, depending on what level you are and what your career aspirations are , it could be great or just not so much.
I just don’t like the Expedia model anymore. It’s just a marketing company. Gonna get squeezed by hotels and Airbnb. They’re like a cpg for a commodity product that is heavily dependent on marketing. They don’t sell proprietary technology or anything. They’re just a middleman and if you’re selling a commodity service, the day you run out of marketing is the day you’re finished. I’ve thought Long and hard about Expedia. I used to adore the company but I don’t anymore because it’s past it’s time. Too many ota’s with undifferentiated value.
Below average compensation. Boring stuffs. Shittiest HR I have ever seen. Promised me to work on a team working on ML before I signed the offer. End up in a team working on legacy code maintenance
I was at expe before. Totally shitty company. Their engineers are the lowest bar in tech i have ever seen. Tech stack is outdated, disaster waiting to happen. Senior engineers dont know how to develop tech solutions, what the heck they dont even know how to merge code. There is this quota based promotions they are proud of and keep promoting unqualified people to top positions. All good people are leaving behind rotten spoiled people Compensation: lowest in the seattle area. At expe i was making 140 tc. Now my tc is 300. I wasted 2 years at expe and missed out on big $$. Totally frustrating working there. Dont go there.
Uber beware?
Half of the things you’ve stated here are blatant lies. Other half is exaggerated . I realize you must have been unhappy , and there are reasons, but please refrain from spreading lies
Everything is correct so far. Bad promotions and a few who are left are trying hard to leave. But some projects are interesting.
It’s terrible and if you want to know more, PM me
