Recruiter reached out to me about a SWE job with Facebook but it seems like these days Facebook is not a very good company to work for? Seems like it’s lost it’s prestige so I’m not sure if it’s worth interviewing there. I also am interviewing with Airbnb, google and Apple which all seem more prestigious these days. I don’t have any big FANG/unicorn companies on my resume so want to add one but want to be mindful of facebooks current standing. Not sure if I will be looked down on for having worked there since it’s had so much bad news around it these days.
Fb is more prestigious than most of your list due to talent there. You go there for who you'll get to work with and how you can approach problems.
I wouldn’t work for Facebook these days
FB is still top tier. prestige is a function of density of talent and compensation and selectivity, and FB is def high on all those
They're desperately trying to recruit me. They can't be that prestigious. 😆
You meant “they can’t be”?
You probably won’t get in, calm down
There’s probably more of a range involved and none of those companies fall far enough outside the range to have more significance than *what* you’re actually working on and accomplishing at those companies. I would choose for the type of work and projects before I chose on name brand with that set.
They are obviously a bit desperate with all the negative news, but the engineering bar is still pretty high there and I know a ton very smart folks there
FB seem to have better people quality than others.
It is great in terms of eng, I wouldn't work there though
Apple, Google and FB purely for resume bait. But AirBnB has a great culture, so as others said, these all can be around the same level of prestige. Try to pick a team that you find interesting and a manager who can help you develop.
FB >>>>> Apple
Really? It seems like FB has lots of problems these days. Why is it better? I guess career wise would it look better if I spend a few years at Apple or a few years at FB?
Depends where
