I have 15+ yoe; want to switch do i really need to go through this nonsense or is it blind effect I am feeling? I don’t think anyone can crack these questions without memorization/having solved before/lucky to have been asked again. What companies treat experienced candidates more reasonably? Discuss.
Don’t think so. It about problem solving ability rather then memorize the solutions/algorithms for problems. I would say FAANG companies treat quite well experienced candidates, though luck is always a factor in interviews.
I disagree with it being about problem solving ability. That's what it SHOULD be about, but too often in a 45-minute window, this style of interviewing boils down to whether or not the candidate has seen a similar problem before. Preventing things from ending up like this is as much the responsibility of the interviewer as it is the interviewee, and many interviewers just aren't that good at guiding a problem-solving discussion.
I really agree with Zoox, its not about problem solving at all. You’re really expected to give your solution and time complexity within the first 5 minutes of seeing the problem, and spend the next 30 programming it out and taking about pros and cons of the choices you’re making. To solve it in the first 5 minutes, you need to have seen it or seen something very similar before. You’re not going to come up with KMP organically in 5 minutes, especially not given the awkward silence and how you’re pressured to continuously keep talking.
Leetcode in itself is not nonsense. Folks expecting interviewees to solve them (especially those pesky hard ones) in 45 mins are.
Do you have a better way to standardize and compare interview performances?
If the jobs aren't "standard" and the performance reviews aren't standard, what would you do?
It is nonsense. Why else would everyone advise it? To eliminate you as competition
Leetcode is a knowledge, prepare for it is not waste of effort. Nothing better to evaluate candidate in short amount of time.
It is easy way to filter those who cannot think algorithmically.
it is now a required skill
🥱
Many companies ask practical interviewing questions as well. You can skip the LC companies if you want.

It is basically cheating if you think about it. Some call it leveling the playing field for those wanting to break in. Glorified test prep.
I disagree. I have 10+ YoE and recently started to leetcode. Wish I found it earlier. DS/Algos are super important if you take programming seriously. I agree with the commenter below, @ovahFlow. Leetcoding makes you a better engineer. Hands down.
