Is it worth it to to get an MBA? Using one of the online schools part time?
There's a LOT of value to being in the classroom setting and being forced to think on your feet in front of smart people who are looking for ways to dismantle your point. Forces you to get really good at asking the "right" questions and being comfortable with being uncomfortable!
For fun and colleagues yes, for earning potential no.
No. Especially not an online MBA.
Only if you want to get into management at non tech companies
Satya Nadella, Sundar Pichai and Tim Cook all have MBA’s the CEOs at the other faangm companies are incidentally also the founders do it’s a bit different there
So you pick 3 people , great anecdotal evidence :/
Cannot answer to this question without knowing your exact background, your current trajectory and your career aspirations. It's an costly investment.
Why does it fill like people here are poking fun at online degrees? The school I went to has a campus and a online program. I got my bachelor's online because it was a lot cheaper and made it easier for me to work full time and go to school full time since my parents didn't help me pay for school at all. I got an internship and had a job offer before I even graduated. I'm now on my second job out of college. I'm currently working at Raven Software so I think I'm doing just fine. As for ops question I feel like masters are just if you want to learn more and don't actually change much or if you are overseas and are looking for a way into the US. And phds are only if you want to go into research or teach. The Masters might make your salary more but it's also expensive
Not poking fun at all!
You can't generalize. CS online degree? Sure. MBA? No. Law school? No. Med school? No.
In general online degrees from for profit online only “schools” are essentially worthless in the job market. These are resume polishers for people who don’t know better. To answer your question, an MBA from a top 10 school will almost always be worth the investment in the long run.
True. Because so much of a business related role requires the ability to influence, negotiate and think critically on your feet, there's a lot of "practice" you'll miss out on.... Imagine a lawyer who couldn't speak publicly. They exist, but their ability to do anything beyond legal research is pretty impossible...
If you're going to go online you might as well find some syllabuses online and read the articles your self. The book knowledge is widely available. You're missing the discussions and group work of an in person time MBA program.
