I am planning to do a masters but I am interviewing with Bloomberg and Amazon soon so i don't really need it for a comfy life. With masters (from Brown), I can aim for hedge funds and shift to quant. Are there any other benefits of masters and do you think if its worth it? Why?
Just do the math, it takes no more than 30 minutes. What’s the difference in salary factoring in the opportunity cost of missing years of salary and career growth. It’s a good thing to do if you can get it paid for and do night classes while working, otherwise the only good reason is if you are passionate about academics which is noble and totally justified.
But I can switch to being a quant which I would never be able to do down the swe path.
It totally worths it, think long term. Even try a phd...
Not sure if you are trolling or being serious. phd is actually pretty good, I think.
I am serious, PhDs in a relevant field make a lot more money in the long term
Masters in what?
ML
Thanks. Can you please tell me why didn't you try for 2sigma and such hf?
That’s interesting, you’d think master’s quality of peers would be higher, since they’re serious enough to attend graduate school.
Seem quite confident in your ability to shift to quant. Are you a competitive programmer or just a savant in algs?
I have done 560 lc. I am quite confident in my problem solving abilities and kinda tired of it. Looking for something challenging now.
I have read most decent books related to algo design too.
I also would like an opinion on this, although if Amazon is calling forget it.
Amazon is not worth it. There’s a high chance your intellect will diminish
I would move from amazon within the first year
Being into amazon is no where being to comfortable
I can always shift. Actually I also passed Google's interview but headcounts were the problem. So, I am told I would be given preference coming fall.
