I’m expecting an l67 offer from MS, currently a recently promoted L7 at Amazon . In terms of comp, I don’t think I’m getting a step up . So I’m wondering if it’s a step up in terms of scope ? I see l68 is a partner at ms, is that effectively a director at other companies ? Amazon tc: 720K Msft TC (verbal) : 750K #engineering #software #swe #microsoft
67 and l7 are about the same. Manager of managers. Did you ask what the scope is for the team at MSFT?
This is for IC roles . They are both principal level . But ms has multiple sub levels within principal. This maps to the highest principal level at ms
The scope at ms seems larger FWIW
YOE?
67 is usually on the bench for partner. If you hit 67 you’re usually expected to make 68. Not sure if that changes for external hires.
This isn’t true really - 67 is also a terminal level. The rule is if you are 68 you are expected to hit level 69. (The pay for 68 is basically the same as 67)
L64 is terminal level. Not L67.
67 ICs are expected to have a very broad impact across orgs. Some reports to Directors, at same leve as M2.
67 is comparable to a high end l7. So if you are a newish l7 it’s probably worth it. If you have a chance at teaching l8 in the next two years, it’s probably not worth it.
