Reading the Netflix culture page shared by recruiter, and I’m really into what’s described there.
“People over process”
“The values of a firm are shown by who gets rewarded or let go”
“You are known for … and being non-political”
Giving freedom and trust to people more than managing them.
and the list goes on..
These sound pretty solid good culture, especially for someone who experienced some corporate bs + micromanaging managers. But is it real though, is Netflix culture actually good, for experienced swe?

with an important note that it’s applied with a humane lens. people don’t go around asking “hey apply the keeper test to me” and managers don’t go “hey so i applied the keeper on you this morning”
view the nuances of behavior through that lens. we expect people to be humane and empathetic people.
Though one exception I’ve discovered is the “personal top of market” pay idea and the claims about always matching competing offers. Netflix was tied for 3rd lowest comp of the offers I received and they would not budge to match even as my top offer beat theirs by over $100k/year.
Ultimately it was why I had to turn them down because it wouldn’t make sense for me to start somewhere with that top of market pay philosophy when they think my top of market is lower than numerous other companies do.
