In looking at the first few reviews of Rover I see many complaints of low pay and lack of diversity. As an engineer at Amazon, both of these traits in a company are very important to me. I had an informal chat with them a while ago, and there was literally 3 meetings happening in their lobby, so they are definitely suffering from growing pains until they move to the new site. @rover people: how much lower is the pay and do you see any diversity issues in Engineering?
Pay is competitive – keep in mind the size of the org, stage, maturity. If my understanding of base salary is correct with respect to Amazon, it’s competitive. Diversity is improving. Especially gender. Could improve ethnic diversity. Considering Rover, I appreciated that the executive level was not being dominated by men.
Is there any compensation in addition to base salary that is competitive with other companies? Stock options, bonus, etc?
What value do you put on equity at a pre-IPO company? I have no idea about bonuses within engineering. Signing bonuses, of course. Beyond that 🤷🏻♀️
It is bad. A lot of ex Amazon leadership intentionally using the same churn and burn employment model. Weird kool aid culture too.
What? By no means is this place an oasis, but where are your examples of this supposed churn and burn employment model? As far as I can tell the tenure of folks here directly contradicts your statement.
Ya who is an ex amazon leader now at Rover?
I literally don’t think there is a single ex amazon leader at Rover
Yes, it’s very bad. Definitely Amazon churn and burn style. My impression of leadership is they’re a bunch of narcissists who have intentionally learned what empathy looks like and try to act like that.

Yes. Bad reviews on Glassdoor are the most important things you should read.
... especially if most of the recent reviews are all fairly negative
