There is lot of voice of late for inclusion and diversity but one wonders why is it selective? Brands that champion 'justice' are the same ones who run sweat shops in South Asia. Is the treatment as such because the Asians/browns don't shell out $$ to buy thier products? Hollywood/Media is one such arena which happens to be highly selective and practice double standards when it comes to address the issue of inclusion. On one hand, characters which are supposed to be white are being forcebly played by a black actor ( check BBC Achilles), Asians and Indians are played by whites/non-asian/non-Indians. Freddie Mercury was of Indian descent, and no it's racist to consider an Egyptian same as Indian. And Tilda Swinton ain't Bhutanese/Nepalese. The same zeal for diversity disappears when it comes to browns. Though a token Asian character is featured these days, just to get those Chinese folks flocking into theaters, representation of brown characters is fewer than single digits. Cometh the Oscar season, voices will be raised for the dominance of whites and numbers will be put why so few of blacks are awarded one. Obviously, Black panther will be given an Oscar just to progress the agenda ( Oscar award preference order : a Good film < black = LGBTQ < black+LGBTQ) , but no one raises voice for representation of browns? For example, the MCU or DCEU, none feature an Indian despite browns making 1/4th of World population and suffering worse than others(at the hands of the 'oppressors'). All one gets is a stereotypical loser Dopinder when the Indians happen to be most educated and affluent section In USA, running the Silicon valley. Is it because they work hard without being pampered by SJW or getting quota benefits in college admissions? Lest, they are bullied. I wouldn't even mention the cultural appropriation in the films that feature southern Asian countries. Ultimately, how is selective empowerment ain't a form of racism itself? PS: Browns mean India & neighbouring countries. Not Hispanics (pretty well addressed) PPS: I am Anti PC, but hate selective political correctness more.
It appears Freddie Mercury was of Persian descent from a group that happened to live in the subcontinent. He doesn't look remotely Indian. He does look middle eastern.
1) Not to offend the OP, but you need to get the fuck down from your pedestal. The fact a large proportion of tech workers are indian/brown doesn’t necessarily translate that they’re all rich and run the Valley. The rich people who run the Valley are russians and jews. Most Indians are mere minions of the tech companies working endless hours trying to achieve financial success. 2) Why are you hating on the Chinese and other Asian folks. Indians/browns in the US don’t try to assimilate to US culture as much as other Asian folks do. There’s nothing wrong to keep your cultural roots from the home country; but you can’t have the double standard of keeping all the traditions from your home country while being closed minded about the ones the US has, and still expect that US pop culture will include you. 3) A large percentage of Indians/browns in the US aren’t considered citizens because they are on H1B/L1/student visas or something along those lines. So they are viewed as temporary residents in the US; hence Indian culture does not have that much of an impact in American pop culture.
Your argument has nothing to do with my Post. The question raised was selective empowerment
Hollywood is doing a good job ejecting the sexual molesters even when it costs them. the new season of house of cards (spacey free) is garbage.
TLDR
SJW are selective when it comes to diversity and inclusion agenda
@OP: you should become a SJW to ensure your group of interest is properly represented. Those other groups you mentioned (blacks, hispanics, LGBT, etc) are too busy fighting for their own inclusion to care about oher groups. So the browns you mentioned get left behind. Anyway, it shouldn’t be too hard to for the affluent brown community running the Silicon Valley to fork over a few million $$s to get represented.
A nations divided is a nation easier to conquer. Also: political correctness is the new facism.
The question: why is the political correctness selective in safeguarding interests and feelings of particular groups and not browns?
> politics correctness is the new facism Just. Wow. That’s enough blind for today.
