Recently started following Marc Benioff (CEO/Founder Salesforce) on twitter The majority of his tweets are filled with “Wow so great! I love salesforce!” replies. It’s almost cultish. Elon levels except Benioff actually accomplishes things Is the salesforce koolaid really that good or are they all just loco?
It’s a sales company so it’s kind of baked into the culture.
Keep in mind the company is huge into charity, equality, social activism, etc. I'm not supporting or defending it, but it goes beyond just the product. It's an extremely loud company in many ways. I think that's where a lot of the cult attitude stems from.
It’s like coming to the cemetery and complaining that everyone is dead. Of course fans of Benioff would follow him and praise him on Twitter. Those who don’t care don’t even know he has a Twitter account. And those who disagree with him are probably smart to keep their mouth shut in public if they know anything about work ethic. I don’t know much about Salesforce CEO, but isn’t it similar to what is happening to other prominent CEOs?
Also it solves customer pain and folks love us for that
Elon didn’t accomplish anything? That’s news to me
Built rockets and mass production electric luxury cars that do 0-60 in 2.3 seconds that people actually buy. What does a guy need to do nowadays to be considered as accomplished?
Suck a dick and have a reality show apparently

We don't call it #dreamjobs for nothing. But really, it's not like this is a new phenomenon -- if you look at what Steve was for Apple, Larry and Sergey are for Google, Bill Gates for Microsoft-- people like leaders with vision. They will follow those leaders. And those leaders know that it's going to take more than cool tech to keep people invested in that vision. Marc's vision isn't for everyone, but clearly some of us have chosen it above the other options-- investigate and find the one that works for you.
What’s his vision? Making the world a better place by making software for sales people?
Sales may have been the original use case and is often the easiest entry point when explaining our services and products. But those services and products reach well beyond that now. We offer PaaS that's used in multiple industries and functions, and we're still growing. We market ourselves to other businesses, we're not a lifestyle company and that may seem less sexy on the surface, but for most people I run into at work its about the values that the company promotes/you support in your job, the lifestyle/quality of life we're given, while getting to work on cool tech. But we're always about people, our customers and our co-workers. And all businesses are relationship-based so while I'm not in Sales I don't see the point of hating on them. Those folks have a very valuable skill, they can get anywhere and talk to anyone if they're really good at it. Anyway, Marc's book, Behind the Cloud provides a great explanation. You have to do some research to know all the cool things Google's tech is used for, we're no different.
Every company over here tries to be a cult buddy. We all have our visionary leaders and our conferences. It’s just normal. If your company doesn’t have these things then it probably means it is not a very established company.

Koolaid = pride for the company mission and culture? Why can't the staff be excited about their product and company?
Of course they can, but most of them are acting in that way. Be proud of the company and product, objectively evaluate them, and take actions to improve it, that's how I pay back my salary. And honestly, when you focus on the third part, you can hardly get your voice heard. When the boss just wants the first part, it's time to move on.
