I live in Raleigh and it's great city but being young and working in software, I have the FOMO.
overrated in some me areas. Definitely the cost/quality of living trade-off is nothing like you'll find there I'm sure. It's densley populated and if you're in the city you'll be exposed to needles on the ground, human poop on the ground, lots of homeless and crazies wandering the streets. Plentyuff going on around the city throughout the year and pretty good weather for the most part. of course you get what you put in but I've learned as I get older I find it hard to ignore clear faults that affect my way of living (and that I keep paying that doesn't change it)
ditto.
I am in NYC. Many peaks (entertainment, fashion, tech) versus just one. +1
What do you want from life?
I've been here for a while - it's really tough right now due to the insane rise in housing but the density of opportunities and experience is unmatched. Be here for the learning but unless you have a super pay package, prepare to move out to a different office later. Great idea is come here, make a mark, learn a bunch and the transfer to a more reasonable place with a company. Any reasonably large company can get you a transfer to Colorado, Texas, Virginia, Atlanta, Washington etc.
San Francisco is great
yes and no. la / nyc / seattle / portland are all way more dope if you're not a geezer. that said, the opportunity and tech scene here is pretty unmatched, at least for now. the weather is perfect as well, imo.
LA/Seattle are great also. Phoenix is up and coming, but still fairly conservative. Only a couple cool companies out here, but it's building a bit. If you haven't been, take a trip to the Bay Area. It's a cool city to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there with cost of living plus all the other crap(literal also) you gotta deal with. Those taxes too, ouch.
Cisco San Jose pays peanuts, you are better off living life king size in RTP
Yes if you can get into a tier1 company. Bring a wife from Raleigh when moving.
The wife part. Too real!
^^ agreed

The people, tech, and experiences you have access to that you wouldn't normally are worth it living in the Bay Area.
