I'm in Boston - have three school-aged kids. Considering relo to Seattle. Several people have shared it's not worth relocating - -huge homeless issue -rampant drugs -weather isn't that great -schools are ok - not great -dirty city Pros: -good career opportunities -some neighborhoods and nearby towns/cities seem to have good schools - Bellevue, Mercer Island, Kirkland, etc... -great outdoor life -Lots of career opportunities (not: I've kind of outgrown Boston - not a lot of "cool" companies out here... not interested in working in insurance/banking/biotech I'm not an engineer. I'm an HR leader in tech companies. Have other folks from the East Coast moved to Seattle? Is it really that bad? Boston is great - clean city with great history and lots to do... #seattle
You just named all big cities. Good luck finding one that doesn’t have homeless problems, drug problems, bad schools, and a dirty city.
DC
The druggies are all inside the nice buildings in DC
Have been Seattle for a while whatever you mentioned is almost right, It’s cloudy and rainy mostly so kids might not like it , city is filthy except few places... Jobs are there but very competitive
Seattle has bad weather, but Boston is the worst.. so you are better off
Nah. It's more fun to play in sunny day in the snow than rainy day in the rain.
Seattle eastside is where you raise families, eg Bellevue. Seattle is where you go to work
Bellevue has fantastic public schools.
Also a decent house there is 1m plus.
Seattle is shit .
Bellevue is very nice, clean, good schools, generally suburban area, no homeless that I have seen. Yes the weather is what it is, and depending where you land work wise, the commute can be 45 min to an hour each way into seattle...
But you can work at Facebook, Google, Amazon and Microsoft without having to drive into Seattle at all.
Having lived in both: Seattle is cleaner than Boston. Seattle has more tame weather (imo better, unless you like blizzards and closed subways) Seattle homeless is higher but makes sense with better weather (it’s better than SF and LA) and you can easily find neighborhoods where it’s not an issue Seattle schools aren’t as toxically competitive in part cause everyone isn’t dead set on Harvard or MIT Seattle has way more tech if that’s your jam Seattle has a lower COL
I’m amazed that location is still an issue in 2020....I’ve worked remote for 20 years
Take it from someone who moved from NYC. It's heaven.
Have you been to Seattle? The first two points and last two points are overblown, esp compared to Boston
Seriously? Homelessness and drugs are a real issue.
Not worse than Boston
