I heard Splunk pays really well. All Glassdoor , indeed, levels.fyi reviews are very positive, product looks strong and culture seems to be employee friendly with good WLB but still I haven't seen people talking about Splunk a lot and it's not considered in #FAANGMULA . Any reason ?
Splunk is good
Splunk is an overrated workplace. The pay is okay but the culture is just like any ordinary SV company. Nothing interesting or worth discussing.
Which company do you think pays really well and has really good culture & WLB? #cisco ? 🤭
I don't know. I have worked for Splunk and so the review. Cisco has been good for me.
Yes Splunk is overrated. If you want to just finish some work and get paid well it’s good. Not if you’re looking for career growth or great projects for your resume.
Then which companies have better projects in general?
Depends on what you are looking for. Splunk core is all built by Splunk and does not use any large scale systems like Kafka, data stores or aws (except a couple teams). Backend engineering positions at newer companies are mostly looking for experience with cloud and modern tech stack. So pick carefully.
Depends on the team. There are some teams in Splunk working on modern tech stack, building the next SAAS cloud product. So chose your team wisely. Personally I love working at Splunk.
Splunk is not an interesting place to work other than decent TC. The core product has so much gravity in the company that anything new or interesting is an afterthought.
I'm not sure I agree with that. The SignalFx acquisition is completely changing certain pieces of the pie. And SCP which is pretty openly honest about being the future of the company is set to be basically Splunk Core version 2 as a 100% cloud native product.
I love working at Splunk. It’s awesome! Sign up!
Everyone replying seems to be in engineering, so diff perspective from the non-engineering side. I’ve been at Splunk for less than a year and have really been enjoying it. I love both my immediate team and the larger team that I’m apart of. They both really care about or team and implementing a work life balance because our jobs are so stressful. There’s a lot of understanding for personal days off, personal/family emergencies, and people stepping up to help others. They’re also really open to people voicing if they want to try something different. Of course this can vary by team. My roommate works for Accenture and overheard our all hands and said “so this is what it’s like to work for a company that cares about you.” People can complain all they want, but overall I think Splunk has taken care of us really well during Covid-19. I have friends who work for FAANG and other larger companies and they don’t get taken care of the way we do. My roommate is saying this from the perspective of what our leadership said in the all hands and to what my specific team has done over time to make sure people are getting the breaks/care they need.
Why did you let your roommate listen to the all hands? Headphones?
She was working in my room and I didn’t boot her out. She wasn’t sitting in and intently watching
No career growth. Look elsewhere or negotiate much higher and be happy with status quo.
Splunk is am amazing company to work for. I've worked at many companies, this is the best.

Stop with this acronym for F sake. FAANG is a term coined by wall street jackasses for stocks performing exceptionally well. Nothing to do with WLB or other perks.
Guarantee you that FAANGMULA did not come from Wall Street, but an Indian MULA engineer who wanted FAANG prestige.
It's nothing about prestige.
