I got an offer and I'm trying to see if it's worth the move or not. How's the culture and the environment in Careem? How's Uber's acquisition going? And how's the compensation in different countries? +5 YOE
One word: Don't. It's a toxic culture. Nobody knows what they are doing. Everyone is running around like headless chickens. The Uber acquisition is still in the upper management stages and hasn't made any changes to the tech dept. The pay in Dubai is tax free but the cost of living is very high. You will be paid well but you will not enjoy work environment
Are you within Careem?
Yes
exactly don't. As much as i know from my ex-colleagues working there, its worse work culture you can imagine. money is also not great when compared to dubai expenses. People are moving out as soon as they complete a year.
If you're a bachelor the pay might be good if Dubai, with a family it's not great. For the culture it's a very stormy time so it can go way worse or way better until the deal closes, so it depends on your team and on which engineering office as well
What other options are there in Dubai? Fetchr? Noon?
What team has offered you ? I am here and enjoying my time. The SuperApp will be a game changer. I am paid well and the cost of living is no where bad as others mention.
How many YOE do you have and what’s the pay like?
I spend at most 3k a month including renting my own 1 badroom in Marina, pay is not low in compare to the cost of living! Culture was amazing before the deal rumors started, now it got worse, but worse, is faaaaar away from bad, it just not a heaven anymore, but every single new joiner I know enjoy a lot!
What is expected pay for MTS2 or mts3
I think, it is between 15-35k
Echoing a few people here. Pay is good but culture is horrible. Management has outright said we are no longer s tech company and all the strong tech folks on Product and Engineering have already/in the process of leaving
don't want to leave abruptly in 6 months (and with a unnecessary switch on your resume to explain to recruiters) then don't join.
With acquisition in progress, the changes are very abrupt here. Things can be good at sometime but they change quickly in a span of 3-4 weeks.
5 years Senior EM not really sure but I am sure you are a awesome tech guy or product guy and that's the reason they offered you . But with the title you need to have enough power ,timeline and right direction to gear up your car and move . This isn't there in Careem anymore . You don't even have an idea what's your team budget sometimes and no power to hire the right talent . If you wish to be in Dubai to earn super high salary they do join and finish of your financial commitments . But it will take a toll on your heath and family life if not balanced properly especially in Careem .
Curious; what kind of salary are we talking about? Senior EM at Uber is 600-700k TC but of course that’s heavily taxed.

You have 5 YOE and are going to be a senior EM? Legit question.
The job description states 10 YOE but they approached me based on my profile, and I passed the interviews. What would I lose?
Could be a red flag if there are enough departing managers to hire someone with 5 YOE as a Senior EM. There’s a reason why the job req says 10 YOE. Just saying.
