Is being a people manager worth it?

All my life I’ve been super driven and would only care about climbing the ladder and getting a promotion. I have 1.5 YOE and I’ve skipped several levels already and am currently in a specialized senior role. The next level for me would be people management. However, across all the internships and roles I’ve held, my managers never seemed to be at ease. They’d be working around the clock and sleep at 2am with no opportunity to take PTO without feeling any sort of guilt. They’re also constantly getting pulled from all sides. One of my previous managers even started therapy when they became a people manager. Is it really worth it to grind to get into people management only to live this kind of lifestyle? I’d love to hear from people managers. I’m in the tech industry but in a non-tech role. I know I’ll make more money as a people manager but is it really worth the lifestyle and stress? #tech #management #manager
