Is big data engineering a good career path to transition to data scientist ?
I am a software engineer with 2 years of experience in java. I am interested in career path of data scientist, but when I search in job sites, the number of jobs related to data scientist or machine learning is less, as compared to big data engineer. Need some guidance ?

Big data or data science are specialization with in SWE. General SWE jobs are high in count and pay you more. If really really love specialization then forget salary and take any opportunity that may showup. Mostly companies that really know how to take advantage of big data are top notch companies. Rest are just wasting their money without any direction. Be prepared for low pay and getting fired in these clueless companies. Good luck
