It seems like coinbase could have gotten a huge first mover advantage and tons of rev, but has been incredibly slow. I’m shocked they haven’t made faster moves towards being a true USD -> all alt coins platform, which would eliminate many exchanges and heavily increase volume, which equals more money through trading fees. Throw in the Bcash fiasco, potential insider trading, and major downtime during times of high volume. They have been successful, but so much missed opportunity
Being regulated comes with upsides and downsides. Upside means trust from common people which in turn brings them to being #1 downloaded app in the App Store in All categories. Downside means they can’t add shit coins willie nilly. I’m pretty sure they are doing ok with the path they chose.
What is the alternate?
I think robinhood would seriously kick their butts ! They have been excellent in stock trading.
Robinhood does not do much. They use APEX for clearing stocks. It’s just a passthrough.
Coin base doesn’t seem like they’re in bad shape. Maybe they hit a triple instead of a home run
They did a billion in revenue I think they're ok
And MySpace had a bazillion users once too. First mover advantage can be great. But they suck at scaling.
There's a zero percent chance coinbase maintains it's market share no matter what they do. It will grow so much and so many more companies will enter. Including the banks
Yep. Seems like a pretty poorly run company.
The founders already earned enough money to pay back the investors and enjoy rich life for the next 300 years. I don't think they missed any opportunity. Actually, I think Robinhood missed the opportunity, no?
BTW, I love Robinhood and its beatifullly designed profit model too. But if Robinhood had come earlier in crypto currency market, they could have earned SWEET profit. As they came in late, they are going to open the price war again, which is very very stressful and hard while Coinbase enjoyed huge fee in a relatively easier way.
Check out Ethos
Couldn’t agree more. Lackluster service paved the way for numerous competitors to enter.
