Is eBay more chaotic than other similar product(Walmart/Amazon/PayPal/Lyft/LinkedIn/Facebook) companies for Product Manager ? Hoz the product culture in other companies?. Sometime, I feel lot of things are out of order at ebay. Just want to know is it similar or less at other places
Even as a product manager, we do lot of program management work as well. I don't have any program many assigned
M not complaining about doing the program work. Sometime, I feel lot of things are out of order at ebay. Just want to know is it similar or less at other places
PMs are the source of chaos 😂
I can relate to what you are feeling. At eBay, both Product and Program responsibilities are done by Product. Previous company I worked at had a Project manager in every scrum team who took care of scheduling meetings, aligning cross functional teams, driving teams to delivery dates/launch, tracking risks etc while I could focus on the customer experience, remove roadblocks and inspire my team to build delightful products. Now I’m just simply too exhausted at the end of the day to even think clearly. You are not alone!
When it comes to delivery dates, timelines and work status updates - isn’t that what the ATLs are responsible for?
Tech leads do hands-on coding, they are also the go to person on the team who other engineers rely on for architecture, best coding practices, mentoring etc. The dev manager also plays the scrum master role, this varies though from company to company.
What is the role of the Dev manager ?
What do you mean by “chaotic” ?
Running around people and multiple meetings in cross collaboration. Getting everyone's approval/signoff for requirements. Getting timelines of all the dependent teams aligned. So many times, work is like black box because of lack of documentation. Engineering running the show and Product Managers are not given full visibility. Somedays, I get exhausted with the program manager work
Oh PM = Program Manager ?
