Is internal move to Amazon NYC worth it?

Planning to move from Seattle to NYC next year. Wanted to get some opinions for what TC I should expect and whether I should spend the next couple months studying so I can interview at other companies in NY. Moving internally within Amazon to NY seems like the least effort but more likely that Ill end up on a team / org I’m not super excited about. On the other hand, trying to interview at other companies will require alot more work for what Im not sure is necessarily a guaranteed increase in TC. Has anyone had any recent experience finding or starting a new sde role in nyc? What other companies in ny would be good for software? I get alot of recommendations for hedge funds / finance, but Im not sure if Im cut out for it nor would my current work experience standout on a resume. L5 @ 185 TC, 3 YOE

I’ve already made up my mind that I’m leaving for NYC. Just trying to figure out if I should switch teams or find a new company

What’s you reason for hating on Seattle? Is it the rain that might constantly affect the people’s mood there?

Switching companies will probably result in less pay

Most tech jobs are on west coast, outside of FAANG it may be hard for swe. Good luck, not trying to argue just sharing perspective

There are lots of great Amazon teams hiring in NYC. You will make more money than in Seattle. Cost of living difference depends on where you choose to live. Most SDEs live in NJ where it’s cheaper and just a train ride away. If you aren’t happy, you can always look for a new company once you get there.
