Is it a Good Faith gesture?

I was recently let go by a new start up (Seed Stage) because I was trying to implement processes and procedures that would help the brand scale.

Since then, two of their C Level executives have reached out to me on two different occasions to offer me an interview with companies they are invested in. I find this to be a very odd gesture, but am I reading into this too much.

In my separation they mentioned that my strategy was not a culture fit for them, so why would it be a fit for two companies they have a vested interest in? These gestures make it so confusing to me, but am I just reading too far into it, and is this really a good will gesture to help me land my new next role?

Has anyone ever experienced this in the start up world?

Culture fit is a catch-all phrase but usually means that some a-hole somewhere didn’t like you. If these C-folks are reaching out, it means that they think you are good and couldn’t influence the A-hole to retain you. This is good and leverage it

Take it and run. They likely saw/heard something that would benefit the other companies, err…themselves in your strategy

  • You are not a fit for us but good enough to do it somewhere else and we are showing us as helpful to avoid reputation damage. You are on your own and if can read fine print do not stop at just these few options but also anything else you can. Don't panic but feel supported to make your move

That's what I was guessing they were doing. They headhunted me from another org and I had talks with them for a year before I jumped over. Feels like they are trying to save face by this gesture.

    • I sometimes regret being close to such people. Unfortunately it happens. Message me … send me your resume. I have filled my open positions but want to give it a shot around as appropriate.

Sounds like one of the founders didn’t like you. Are the execs reaching out founders or employees? If they’re employees, it means they liked you but couldn’t/wouldn’t stand up to a founder who wanted you gone.

1 is a co-founder the other an early investor who was placed in an exec position to help launch the company.

If you are still looking, leverage the leads. Otherwise, say thank you but the timing is not good as I've started another position.
