Is it easy to transfer from Data Infra to ML?

Just got an offer for a Data Infra role and I’m thinking about my eventual career progression (3-5 years out). Obviously it’s a bit premature since I haven’t even accepted yet, but I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts are on the transition. My impression is that the skillset is transferrable (data pipeline work, cleaning, ingestion etc) so there shouldn’t be too much difficulty. I guess my main concern is I’d have to get some sort of ML/math degree if I wanted to do model training since every coworker I’ve met who does model training has some sort of advanced degree. On another note, anyone from Twitch know what the ML work is like there?

It depends on how you define ML. Some people consider data infra work to be ML, for example.

Hmm, I guess I meant ML infra/serving, but I wouldn’t mind working on model training. What’s your perspective on transferring to the latter? Do I need to get a degree or get good at math?

What aspect of ML infra/serving?

What’s the TC twitch is offering? How was your interview?

$257K TC (between L5/6), interview was ok, LC medium. I know someone on the team so that probably helped.

Congrats OP! Do they ask deep learning or general ML?
