If I receive an offer for one team from Amazon and decline it, but a position becomes available from another team in Amazon which I would accept (same role at both teams), would it be harder or easier to get an interview for the second team? I'm thinking of interviewing for a team, but I know I would rather live in a different city, so I'm thinking I might decline an offer, but would want to be able to apply for a role if it became available in the city I'm interested in living in.
Assuming you have not already declined the offer, tell your recruiter that you did not find the team you interviewed for to be the best fit whether that be the product, location, etc. Then ask if they can match you with the team/location that you want. But make sure to say the first part first or else they will try to dissuade you. I was able to change to a better team and location by doing this. If there are truly no openings at your desired location at the current time, you can ask them to reach back out to you when there is. You might have to do a quick call with the hiring manager but generally not a full loop. A manager I interviewed said he did this to get on his current team.
