Is it normal to feel nostalgic while leaving a company?

I work for BNY Mellon. TC is 17.34 lakhs. I am getting amazing offers from other companies and have cracked some of them. But, when I think of leaving the company just for money, I feel very sad because it treats me well and is my first job. Do you people also feel the same? #bnymellon #software

Dude, i used to work in TCS and AAPL is my 2nd FAANG. If i had been so emotional as to not make a switch, i would have still received peanuts till date. I am NOT saying feeling emtional is bad, you should be. But that doesn’t mean you don’t take the leap towards a better TC

Thanks. Your journey is inspiring!

I think it’s normal especially if you like the job. I was sad to leave a few of my previous companies because the people were great to work with and I liked the work. But I knew in order to advance in my career, I had to leave.

Thanks, I resonate with your comment.

Yeah, it's normal. You're only doing what's in your best interest, and you'll get over the sadness sooner than you realize. All you can do is be grateful that you had a great team on your first job, and take with you the good values that you might have learned and which makes them good. I hope you find your new team to be equally amazing or better 🙂 Good luck!

Yeah, I am certainly liking it here. I am grateful to them for that. Thanks for your guidance

If u are just doing for tc then think it through. May be next team would not be that great or may be manager. Also virtual onboarding sucks and mostly you wont be able to bond with team. I would suggest do it next year or so

Yes, this is also one of my fears. I completely get your point. Thanks

You’ll get over that.. trust me!

Thanks for your assertion :)

I was in same boat. Cisco is my 2nd company. My current manager and teammates especially in usa are really helpful. Yet I have decided to quit for better compensation. June will be my last month at Cisco. Think what you want. Please don’t let us tell you to do it or not to do it. Do it only if you want to do it. I am leaving for good hike and expecting challenging work at new place.

BNY Mellon ddBq42 OP Apr 24, 2021

Yeah, I understand it is me who has to decide. I just wanted to know others thoughts to understand if this is something odd happening to me. Thanks

It’s a natural behaviour, you are a great human being but out there people are ruthless, heartless. Just leave current organisation on good term so that if you want to comeback you can easily get in there. Good luck 🍻

Your emotions are one of the reasons big companies have new grad hiring pipelines. Statistically you feel most attached to your first job and are least likely to quit.

Uber bdhe Apr 24, 2021

Most new grads still switch within 4 years though right? At least the ones I know. I’m curious about those stats if you have them

BNY Mellon ddBq42 OP Apr 24, 2021

Not sure, I believed in the common notion that they hire fresh grads to mould them as per their needs.

Leaving the comfort zone is always difficult. But you got to take care of yourself. Keep making progress and especially when you are capable enough 🙂

Thanks. This felt motivating.

You can feel nostalgic and still leave. Sometimes I feel nostalgic about being a kid, but I don't plan to go back to it.

BNY Mellon ddBq42 OP Apr 24, 2021

😂😂 That's brutally put. Thanks

I'm pretty unhappy with amzn and leaving in few weeks. Still I looked through some old photos on things I've worked on and felt nostalgic.

Where are you going to?
