Did phone interview with google 3 weeks ago. Got a response back from a different recruiter saying I’m recommended for L3. And asking for availability for further interviews.I’ll be honest my performance on phone interview wasn’t perfect but is it possible to get them to interview me for L4? I have ~3YOE. Have interviewed for SDE II at microsoft and SDE II at amazon recently and fell like L3 is down levelling.

Yes, push for L4. I myself with 2.5 Yoe first interviewed for L3 but was later upgraded to L4 because my comp was greater than L3 band

  Would recommend pushing for L4 now, because this way you're interviewers grade you at L4 level. In my case, i interviewed for L3 and when asked to provide feedback for L4 the interviewers decreased the rating by 1 level

Push for L4 now. Getting promoted inside Google isn’t as trivial as most people think.

I had 2.5 yoe before a Google recruiter came to me. The hiring committee twice said L3, but I pushed back and my now manager also pushed back and they went around the hiring committee to get VP approval and I joined recently at L4. You have leverage now. Push for yourself for L4
