Is it possible to get uplevelled from l3 to l4 in Google?

I have offers from other companies as either senior or l4 levels but Google HC decision is l3. Did anyone ever try and get uplevelled to l4? How did you do it? This was my first time interviewing with Google and my entire process with HC + team match took 2.5 weeks only.

      Part of it is that despite Google’s contributions to open source, much of what they do is in-house with in-house tooling. You’ll work on a tightly managed monorepo with services in a k8s precursor.

      tl;dr all your work in the tech island isolates you from what the rest of the industry is doing. Which works for Google, but leaves you with a lot of non-transferable skills.

      3. Very slow promo
      4. Crazy amount of coasters
      5. No real work actually in a lot of teams
      6. Multiple companies which can match your salary
      7. Projects cancelled - this is something unique I have noticed here. Never happened at previous workplaces

      For a new grad none of this matters. For 5-6 YOE like I came in it’s a huge career stopper.
      I don’t see any benefit at all being here if you don’t come in with a good offer and good team

      For reference I have worked at another FAANG prior and another mid size Bay Area tech company

  • G did the same with me. Currently L62 at MSFT and about to be promoted to L63. They downlevel and lowball everyone.

  • Yeap, happened to me. They downlevel and said I was on top of L4, almost L5. Once you are in it doesn't matter, you have to perform really well to get promoted (EE andor SE)

    Google does down level and low ball. I got an offer from them recently with numbers looking similar to what I got in my current company 4 years back!

    You could ask for more interviews before the HC. The recruiter can’t change the HC decision.

    Going from L3 to L4 should be doable and not too hard with a good team and manager support.

    The $ amount is really good for L3. Which other offers you got?

      I didn't get offer details from Google yet. I got offer from bloomberg and LinkedIn and turned down Microsoft offer already. Had 5 onsites and only been rejected by Apple. Not sure, if I should continue interviewing. Uber onsites are still yet to be scheduled. Not sure, if I keep on interviewing. So exhausted already.
