I see Chicago is booming with tech and probably will be the next big hub in the next 5 years. But the pay is still low compared to other cities. Opinions?
Love Chicago if you can get over the terrible weather. Pay may be lower but the cost of housing and living is so much lower you would still be better off imo.
Move to Seattle
Hahahaha, "Chicago is the next big hub". If you're happy where you are, stay. But don't believe the hype, Chicago is not the next hub of tech. If you can make it in silicon valley then do it. At least to get it on your resume
Sorry to hijack the topic, but how is Chicago (I am assuming suburbs) for raising a family / schools? I live in SFBA, but cannot afford it. Thought I'd move to Austin or Dallas, but looks like amzn is opening HQ 2 there, so I'm too late to buy anything there.
I think you still have some time to move to Austin before hq2 gets there if it does end up there. You probably won’t wanna move to Dallas if you’re swe since there really aren’t many interesting jobs there
Western burbs have some of the top schools. Check out Naperville
Do you like poop in the streets? Over the top liberals? 3500 for a one bedroom? Then yes? When I lived there, I liked it , but wouldn’t move back
Who doesn’t love poppy streets?!
I myself enjoy some poppy seed cookies.
Only if you’ll make 3x what you make today
Tell us more about that next big hub in 5 years!
I am from Chicago, and reluctantly moved to the SF Bay Area 5 years ago. I have been hearing and reading about this "Chicago is the next tech hub" since 2010. It's not gonna happen.
Illinois finances drag down everything. Houses haven't appreciated due to all the property tax increases! What a mess.
I would honestly stay in Chicago if you're happy there. The bay is not a good place to be these days.
