I am an L5 SDE. TC 245K (mainly stocks + base 155K). YOE 6.5 Received an email from google cloud recruiter to choose a role that fits me. And the options are SWE, SWE Infra, SWE SRE, SETI, and Data Engineer. Given my experience, I will be evaluated for L3/L4 Engineer which will have 4 to 5 onsite rounds and one of them will be designed around. I also talked about the compensation match, or getting better than what I earn now, if everything goes well, and the recruiter said as much he knows we do not match current compensation. I have been doing an objective evaluation if I should interview now or maybe in the future. Pros of staying at AWS: increasing stock value, higher TC, I am doing okay here, AWS is number 1 public cloud company, currently in the high band of my performance, Seattle downtown. About Google Cloud (not google in general): number 3 or 4 public cloud company, struggling business compared to aws and azure, free food, general historical google brand, possibility of down-leveling to L3, and also the possibility of lowball offer for L3/ L4, WLB in the Google cloud will be similar to AWS, same concepts of oncall, and possibly more aggressive and dynamic work goals to catch up competitors, Kirkland office.
According to some people on a post a couple of days ago, the title doesn't matter. As soon as you join G, you'll be getting calls from recruiters at Oracle-calibre companies for at least Director-level jobs and you'll feel so good. /s
Interview with Google anyway and see what they offer. You won't be down-leveled to 3 unless you don't do too well in the interviews. Can you also interview with other companies to get some competing offers?
Apparently title doesn't matter, is what people suggested on another post. Doesn't that apply to levels? /s
Definitely interview, and take it from there. Maybe also interview with Azure and set up a bidding war.
Do they give you free gcp credits? This is what really matters.
Again with the “free food”, lol it comes out of your pay check
Interview with Google then post your offer numbers here. Maybe the answer will be obvious then.
Yeah. OP is overthinking it lol.
Please interview and get really good offer, and then your decision will be easier to make
Did you interview?

Aws is already massive and with google cloud you’ll be a big fish in a relatively small pond. I’d expect your career growth opps to be higher there vs an already mature product.
Nothing about Google is a small pond lol
To a degree but comparing GCP to AWS makes it much smaller relatively speaking.
